Purchasing a violin
Choosing a violin is a fun and rewarding experience! Here are some tips to help make the process even more enjoyable.
How to size a violin
Violins come in fractional sizes from 1/32 all the way to full (4/4) size. Selecting the correct size for a child is crucial.
Vivace Music Studio teachers are happy to meet with you to determine the correct violin sizing before purchasing an instrument.

Not all violins are created equal. The best way to find a quality instrument at a reasonable price is in person. Vivace Music Studio is excited to offer support. In the meantime, steer clear of the following instruments.
Cecilio
Student success is greatly compromised by starting with a Cecilio violin or any of its subsidiaries. These instruments are largely made with sub-par quality and components such as strings, bridges and bows. These are critical elements that allow for a beautiful tone, smooth bow stroke and good posture.
Painted or Lacquered instruments
While unique and colorful, these instruments usually posses many of the same problems as described above since painting a violin alters the resonance of the instrument.
Any instrument if sight-unseen under $200
It is very possible to get a beginning instrument for less than $200, but we don’t recommend this from amazon, ebay, or similar.
Vivace Music Studio teachers are happy to meet with you free of charge to help you source an instrument for your needs and budget.
